Support in the Downtown Neighborhoods
CCPA works to support many of the initiatives in the downtown neighborhoods of New Orleans. Since 1997 we have work to support the work of Students At the Center (SaC) at Frederick Douglass High School. This is a writing program directed at making students better citizens by researching and writing about their history and community.
In that context we also work with the Frederick Douglass Community Coalition (FDCC) in making the high school a community school. Additionally, working with the feeder schools, we support the UrbanHeart project through its 21st Century Learning Center and into its work with the Carol White PEP work in four elementary schools. Another of our partners is the Crossroads Project in the School of Math & Science. This is an educational initiative in arts and community. Last, but not at all least, is our support of the Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame. This group brings the art and tradition of a local culture into the classroom of our elementary schools.
These are some of the ways we increase peaceful neighborhoods through education.
